Correctional officers support charity run to promote social harmony
The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics was held in Sha Tin Sports Ground on April 28. Officiated by the Secretary for Security Mr John LEE Ka-chiu, the event was given support by seven disciplined services.
More than 170 colleagues and their family members participated in the charity run, which was also supported by members of Oi Kwan Volunteer Group by giving cheering support to the runners. The Department helped raise over HK$110,000 and received several fundraiser awards, in recognition of the active participation of correctional officers in the philanthropic activity. The fund raised in the event would be used for supporting the sports development for persons with intellectual disability, and their participation in local sports training and oversea competitions.
The organiser of the activity also arranged an ignition of “Flame of Hope” ceremony to symbolise support, encouragement and care to persons with intellectual disability by the general public in hopes of conveying the positive message of mutual respect, love and social harmony.
On the 30th Anniversary of the charity run this year, each runner who had finished the run was given a medal as recognition of his/her participation and support.
